The cargo ship's deck was a maze of wooden barrels stacked haphazardly alongside crates of varying sizes. Some were weathered to a soft gray from years at sea, while others stood out with their bright, newly applied paint jobs. Aft, the crew busied themselves securing loose items before the impending storm made its presence known. Crates were lashed down tightly, and barrels were banded together in groups of three or four.
