Barningham Moor 87 (Oct 2006)
sketchfab
Positioned to the west of How Tallon ridge, between two hollow ways on Barningham Moor, County Durham, lies a rectangular stone embedded in ground sloping north. Located within a dense cluster of carvings west of the Romano-British settlement, this stone is referenced 60 in the 1998 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale'. In 2008, NADRAP added the carving to ERA as 'Barningham Moor 87', making it a notable addition. The team that recorded it stated: "This rectangular stone is situated just west of a hollow way, where it slopes north. A small cup with a diameter of 0.04 meters is partly surrounded by a groove forming an arc. Given its shape and proximity to the possible hollow way, the stone may have been deliberately dressed."
