Found on the settlement site below How Tallon ridge on Barningham Moor, County Durham lies a unique stone carving. Situated at ground level, it is one of the most unusual carvings discovered on Barningham Moor to date. Located approximately 10m from a structure believed to be the remains of a hut circle within a probable Romano-British settlement. The carving consists of a large cut bowl with numerous artificial cups surrounding it. Questions arise as to whether this stone was present before the settlement or if it held practical or 'ritual' significance during the proposed Romano-British settlement period. Referenced in Beckensall & Laurie's 1998 publication "Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale" (48) and ERA record Barningham Moor 64.
