Barningham Moor 59 (Sept 2006)
sketchfab
Found on Osmaril Gill, Barningham Moor, County Durham. This rock sits atop an extremely steep slope about halfway up and above scree, making it a difficult spot to access. At its eastern end, nine small (2cm diameter) cups are arranged in a domino pattern. It's unclear whether the stone was carved in this position or if it has fallen from the outcropping directly above. If originally placed here, the carvings were likely not intended for casual observers. Referenced as 67 in Beckensall & Laurie's 1998 publication 'Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale', this carving was added to ERA by NADRAP as 'Barningham Moor 58' in 2008. The ERA record is located at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=838. It's also listed on Historic England's area scheduling at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1017439. A 3D model was created from two stereo pairs captured by NADRAP Team 5 in September 2006, which is part of the full NADRAP archive.
