Barningham Moor 54 (March 2007)
sketchfab
Possible carving discovered north of Eel Hill, on Barningham Moor, County Durham. Yet another new find identified during NADRAP surveys on Barningham Moor leaves experts questioning its authenticity. Like many other sites discovered by the team, they remained unconvinced that the markings were man-made. In 2008, the site was added to ERA as 'Barningham Moor 54' with the team commenting: "This is an earth-fast stone with about a third exposed, the rest covered in turf. Four shallow depressions and one groove are visible. All features appear irregular and small, likely the result of natural weathering due to the stones' cement weakness. However, it sits amongst a group of other stones (mostly buried) which could possibly form a cairn." On the 3D model, the depressions take on a 'cup-like' appearance. ERA record https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=853. The 3D model was created from five images captured by NADRAP Team 5 in March 2007, part of the ERA / NADRAP archive.
