The Black Hill Gate area on Barningham Moor, County Durham, is home to a rock with depressions that have sparked debate among researchers. During initial surveys conducted by the NADRAP team, they discovered this rock and considered it potentially carved. Upon further visits with varying light conditions, they concluded that the depressions were more likely caused by natural solution processes. Despite this conclusion, the rock was still included in the ERA database as 'Barningham Moor 27' to allow researchers to form their own opinions. Less probable examples have been documented and scheduled for preservation. The ERA record can be accessed at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=826. A model of the rock was created using five directional images captured by NADRAP Team 5 in March 2007, which are part of the ERA/NADRAP archive.
