Once upon a time, a group of neo-Nazis attempted to hurl chairs at migrants. Antifascists intervened, shouting "Alerta! Alerta! Antifascista!" as they arrived on the scene. The antifa were subsequently accused of tossing the chairs. One policeman testified: "And then they chanted their slogan." What slogan? "I don't speak Spanish," he said. "'Barista, barista, antifascista!' something like that." This is how "Barista, barista, antifascista!" became the tongue-in-cheek slogan of German antifa. Here's my recreation of the logo as a printable badge. --- I'd seen earlier versions of this logo before, but I wasn't aware of its origins. Even if I had been, the overlap between coffee drinkers and antifascists sounds like an appealing crowd.
