Barbed wire is a sharp metal barrier used to enclose and protect areas from unauthorized access. It consists of two parallel wires twisted together with sharp edges or points. The twisted wires are typically made of steel, aluminum, or galvanized iron. Barbed wire was invented in the 1870s by Joseph Glidden, an American farmer. He patented his design in 1874 and it quickly gained popularity for use on ranches and farms to keep livestock contained.
