Bar Magnet Cover, Mountable
thingiverse
This is a mountable magnet cover for 60 x 10 x 3 mm neodymium bar magnets. These are a common size that you will easily find in whatever online shopping site you prefer. The magnet is inserted into the rectangular socket (glue optional). Using the countersunk holes on the sides, you can mount the magnet cover pretty much anywhere. I originally designed this to hold assorted parts like razor scrapers for my 3D printer turnstile (I will do a blog post on it later. See wesleythoneycutt.com), but I ended up using it everywhere. As pictured with the hammer, I have them mounted on the underside of the shelf above my desk. Anytime I need to toss a tool out of the way, I can just slap it up there. The magnets are typically quite strong, and the cover includes a minimum barrier to use as much strength as possible. In one picture, I show a 387g (0.85lb) hammer hung from a single magnet. Thinner is better for the plastic to allow the magnet to get as close to the ferrous object as possible, but I didn't want it to be TOO thin. This design has handled normal wear and tear for over two years without problems. Obviously, you need to mount it with the magnet covered, otherwise it will pop out of the socket.
