Bar Hairclip - Stars and Plain
thingiverse
In 16 iterations, I designed and printed a functional hair clip inspired by Bruce Sterling's "Kiosk" story. The dimensions are 8.4cm length, 2.2cm height, and 1.2cm depth, weighing only 7g. Made of ABS plastic, this innovative clip showcases an operational ABS hinge, three types of springs, and a snap fastener. The plain version allows for personalization using the provided Sketchup file or by gluing additional embellishments onto its gently curved surface. Two more versions include hairclip-mk15 with four embossed stars on the outer bar and hairclip-mk16-final featuring a flat back for easier modifications. For printing, use your preferred PLA/ABS color, which takes approximately 40 minutes on a Thingomatic printer and requires minimal cleanup with a sharp knife to remove stray filaments. Raftless printing is recommended for better results.
