Bar gauges are essential for verifying the diagonals of cabinet assemblies. Various commercial products, such as Veritas Bar Gauge heads, can be used to complete bar gauges. My interpretation involves creating a design that can be customized to any length within reason! The design consists of two head assemblies made up of a body, pad, bolt, adjuster knob, and screw. You'll also need two lengths of 19mm (3/4") x 5/6mm (1/4") wooden batons. I have two sets, one 500mm long and the other 1000mm long. The body has a printed screw thread that needs to be cleaned out. If you don't have a tap, you can create one using a spare bolt following the instructions at https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-tap-from-a-bolt/. There are two versions available: one with an M5 thread and the other with an M6 thread. Both work equally well, but the threads on the M6 version are slightly easier to clean up. Required materials include: 2 bodies (M5 or M6) 2 pads 2 adjuster knobs 2 hex-headed bolts (M5 x 20mm or M6 x 25mm) with full threads 2 3mm x 10mm parts 2 wooden batons, each measuring 19mm (3/4") x 5/6mm (1/4"), with tapered ends that should be between 20-30 degrees Assembly involves following the pictures provided. Be sure not to attach the adjusters too close to the ends of the batons, as this can prevent the heads from fitting into the corner of your project. If you'd like an imperial version of the design, please let me know the size of the thread required and I'll create a body with the correct thread and an adjuster with the corresponding head size.
