Baofeng BF-888SA Battery Eliminator. This device enables the use of your radio without a battery, instead utilizing a 12V automotive power plug (cigarette lighter). We utilize this component in our endurance race car, but there are numerous applications where it's convenient to have DC power supplied rather than using a battery. Electronics are necessary. Various Baofeng battery eliminators are available for purchase, yet they will not fit the 888SA radio. For example, you can find them on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MDKYX9T/. Carefully remove the electronics from their original housing, taking care to avoid damaging the wires or their connections to the board or spring pins. I have found that accurately drilling horizontal holes is challenging with 3D printing, so I undersized the holes instead. A 5/64" drill bit will be required to enlarge them for the spring pins. Install the electronics in the housing while maintaining the same polarity as the original part. Apply hot glue to the circuit board and wires to prevent fatigue and provide extra strain relief. The main cable's strain relief is designed to attach using a #8 x 3/8 plastic self-tapping screw, which can be obtained from McMaster Carr (part number 92295A311).
