Bannermans Castle
thingiverse
Bannermans Island Arsenal, commonly called "Bannermans Castle", stands majestically on solitary Pollepol Island in the Hudson River, situated south of Beacon NY. Just north of Storm King mountain and Breakneck Ridge lies this enigmatic stronghold. Riders on Metro North Railroad's Hudson Line frequently glimpse this island on every commute. This scale model accurately represents the central "Castle" along with the still-standing Warehouse 3. The ruins of Warehouse 2 are obscured by a tapestry of poison ivy, rendering them invisible to the naked eye. This intricate architectural feat could only be realized through the use of 3D printers. It is impossible to replicate such a complex piece of architecture using conventional methods. The model received widespread attention when displayed at the 2014 Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck NY, as part of the NMRA model trains exhibit. The castle's deterioration commenced in 2009. What remains intact are the rear wall of the castle and a substantial portion of its left side. This precise scale model embodies the castle as it stood throughout the late 20th century up until 2009. For those fascinated by Bannerman Castle, there exists an abundance of detailed information at the Bannerman Castle Trust's official web site: http://www.bannermancastle.org/. These diligent individuals are diligently striving to preserve what remnants remain of the castle. They granted me permission to share this scale model with others. My hope is that enthusiasts will appreciate creating and displaying their own version, finding it to be an extraordinary architectural structure. Printers can freely choose a central size for the castle print. When printing Warehouse 3 separately, please bear in mind that the castle needs to fit neatly within the designated gap. As such, adapt the print of the castle accordingly. These meticulously designed models were constructed with minimal support required for a flawless print experience. A pre-attached support framework on one side of Warehouse 3 can be seen, and users must remove it post-printing. Upon completion of this project, my final prints were done using a Makerbot Replicator Mini. The limited dimensions ( 3-in x 3-in [10-cm x 10-cm] ) allowed for precision but larger printings might face difficulties in managing the intricate designs. Therefore, handle your work with caution to prevent mishaps related to unprovisioned arches and window or door frames.
