Banksia Banksias are a group of around 170 species in the Proteaceae plant family. These Australian wildflowers and popular garden plants can be easily identified by their distinctive flower spikes and fruiting "cones" and heads. Banksias vary greatly in size, ranging from low-growing woody shrubs to trees that reach heights of up to 30 metres. They are found in a wide range of landscapes, including sclerophyll forest, (rarely) rainforest, shrubland, and some drier environments, though not in Australia's deserts.
