Here’s my take on adding extra light to the chamber. Hat tip to Francis Marasigan for first showing the benefits of adding extra light! As mentioned by others, best to turn the light off until after the first layer inspection as the light can mess with the Lidar.

My setup has the AMS on the side, so I decided to design a light ring that sets on the glass top to house the light strips. I prefer to not use the X1 power supply and chose USB 5V strip, 4000K “Natural Light”, $12.99 on Amazon. I had a nice on/off switch with a 10mm bore size so designed around that. I used a textured PEI plate from Francis, black PLA, bed temp 60C. The print is fantastic and popped right off the plate with no release agents needed.

The ring is 235MM square, that was the max I could fit on the bed without getting a boundary error, but it is a good size to fit the cut points on the LED strips.

The last step put saran wrap (cling film) on the glass (or any flat surface), put a blob of clear silicone in each corner of the frame and then set on the glass. Let it completely cure for a day or two. Now the frame will stay put on the X1 glass with it running.

All-in all it came out great, nice even light.

Here’s the light strip I used;

Amazon.com: KXZM USB COB LED Strip Light Natural White 4000K, CRI 90+ DC 5V USB Powered 6.6ft/2M 640LEDs High Brightness Indoor Use IP20 Flexible LED Tape Lights : Tools & Home Improvement
