Bambu Lab AMS roller mod
thingiverse
Three different sized rollers for Bambu Lab AMS to allow the use of larger spools. If you're going to install this make sure to check clearances before you 1) close the AMS lid and 2) run a long print, especially unattended. Check clearance under the spool with a piece of purge scrap or something. You can check clearance above the spool with a piece of thin crafting foam before closing the lid. Check all around the spool. Check the top gap from the side of the AMS with a light shining through, as a print is going to verify there is enough clearance. First and last slot are easiest to check this way. I am able to fit 203mm spools in the AMS no problem. Smaller spools with the small roller might cause the spool to not touch the rollers at all and can cause feeding issues. This mod re -uses the stock bearings. You just need a(straight) 3mm steel rod and maybe a file. The seams on the printed parts need to be smooth and round as possible so it spins with the spool. The roller is split in two so it prints better and is easier to slide onto the steel rod. There will be a slight taper to both pieces this is intentional. The side with the raised circle goes against the bearings. Printing the part with nylon or something more wear resistant would be best. Use at your own risk. I wouldn't recommend this with cardboard spools but you're free to try it. Don't attempt this if your machine has any AMS feeding issues. If you start having issues after installing this mod, reinstall the old roller and test again. Although unlikely to run into a catastrophic problem caused by this as long as you're careful, Bambu will likely not cover any damage caused as a result of this modification. Be mindful when handling the bearings during install/removal. There are pockets inside the AMS where you can lose them. I used the 10mm roller for my 203mm plastic spool but have included 9mm and 11mm versions if that might also work if you have a slightly smaller spool and want more clearance.
