Bamboo Skewers
thingiverse
I was thinking about something really cool to create, and then it hit me - using bamboo skewers in a unique way! So, I jumped into Blender and created corner elements that could be assembled together to form a cube. Building this cube is super easy; just add one more center piece and you're good to go. The resulting structure isn't incredibly functional on its own, but the process of making it was actually quite enjoyable. Instructions: First off, you'll need to print four corner elements using your 3D printer - mine took around six hours twenty minutes to complete. Each corner piece measures about three centimeters in length, and I used a raft during the printing process to help them stick together. When choosing bamboo skewers for this project, make sure to get ones with an average diameter of 3.1 millimeters from your local supermarket. You'll need to twist the small holes on each skewer with a screwdriver to get them to fit properly onto the corner pieces; just use a dremell to clean up any raft debris after they're printed. The centerpiece, by comparison, took around fifteen hours twenty minutes to print - its diameter measures approximately eight centimeters. To estimate total print time, consider that all six parts combined would take around thirty-five hours twelve minutes on my Ultimaker printer. Keep in mind that the longer skewers used for decoration will be about 15 cm long, while the ones going around the centerpiece can be trimmed down to around 8.8 cm.
