Balzer Relieving Tool - working model
thingiverse
This is a functional replica of a Balzer relieving tool, patented in 1895. It operates by turning the winding handle and combines variable gear pitch with eccentric motion to mimic machining relief on milling machine cutters. The patent covers all aspects but can be hard to visualize - printing this model will clearly show how it works, making it an exciting project to showcase. I created this model in just 5 days after discovering 3D printing technology, so if the final product isn't perfect, feel free to modify the design to make yours work better. Check the miscellaneous notes for valuable tips on printing and assembly. EDIT: I've attached the STL file that another member kindly converted.
