The Balsam fir is an evergreen tree that typically reaches heights of 14-20 meters (occasionally 27 meters) with a narrow conic crown comprised of dense, dark-green leaves. The bark on young trees is smooth, grey, and resinous, becoming rough, fissured or scaly on older ones.
