Balsa Strip Cutter

Balsa Strip Cutter

A versatile strip cutter is a tool designed to transform sheets of thin balsa wood into uniform strips efficiently. In some cases, this conversion is necessary due to budget constraints; in others, it's because purchasing pre-cut strips isn't feasible. If you're involved in traditional RC aircraft construction, having one of these tools on hand is almost indispensable. It can significantly save time and effort compared to using a ruler for cutting, while also ensuring that your strips are perfectly parallel. My local hardware store doesn't offer an extensive selection of parts, but the required components are easily accessible: Assembling this print calls for three hex-head M4x40 bolts and two M4 nuts. Although non-hex head bolts can be used as substitutes, you'll need to employ a screwdriver to adjust the cut width. The source files for this project are available on GitHub at https://github.com/sdfgeoff/balsa_strip_cutter. This design bears a striking resemblance to the Master Airscrew variety but boasts slightly higher bite and depth, capable of cutting strips up to 2cm wide and 1cm thick in theory. This tool can accommodate an array of blades, including 9mm craft knife blades, a single snapped-off 22mm craft knife blade, or a #11 exacto blade.
