Balls in a Helix
thingiverse
This project began with a ZBrush helix, from which material was removed without compromising passage for the balls. The challenge lay in maintaining an organic appearance while preventing ball stuck or fallout. Engineering calculations were rejected in favor of visual and tactile design considerations. After printing using ReplicatorG and MakerBot Replicator2 with specific settings, a 15-hour process ensued, followed by support structure removal – a task requiring patience due to the intricate design. Final touches included sanding and filing for smoother ball movement.
