Source Details of Pallasboy Project The Pallasboy project delved into the creative process behind crafting prehistoric wooden artifacts, focusing on the artistic expression that brought these timeless relics to life. Phase II investigated anthropomorphic wooden figurines unearthed from European wetlands. The Ballachulish figure was a key artifact examined during this phase. The Ballachulish figure is a remarkably lifelike representation of a female, masterfully carved from a single piece of alder wood and adorned with pebbles for eyes. Discovered in November 1880, beneath deep layers of peat during construction work, the figure was found lying face down on an old raised beach's gravel surface. Its original placement suggests it might have stood sentinel beside a pool. The Ballachulish figure has been radiocarbon-dated to approximately 600 BC.
