A human turns a ball valve by rotating it a quarter turn, using a hollow, perforated, and pivoting ball to control the flow of liquid through it. The valve is open when the hole in the center of the ball aligns perfectly with the direction of the flow and closed when it's rotated 90 degrees by the handle, blocking the passage completely.
