A ball valve is a type of quarter-turn valve that uses a rotating ball to control the flow of fluids through a pipe. The ball has a hole or port through its center, which can be aligned with the inlet and outlet ports by rotating the handle. When the handle is turned 90 degrees from the closed position, the valve is fully open, allowing fluid to flow freely through the pipe. Conversely, when the handle is turned 90 degrees from the open position, the valve is fully closed, blocking the flow of fluid.
