ball mount for a small mirror

thingiverse

This is a universal swivel mount for a small mirror allowing free rotation about any axis. The circular frame measures exactly 52.5 mm in diameter by a precise 4.88 mm thickness. Assembly Instructions Bond (using acetone) mirror_mount_141113b.stl to the complementary ball_141114b.stl, securing them firmly together. Attach clip_141114g.stl directly to mount_141115.stl using robust adhesive methods. Carefully snap the transparent ball into its respective groove within clip_141114g.stl. To finalize setup, use pressure-sensitive foam tape for mounting purposes atop a standard-sized monitor. Original Design Specifications The ball diameter amounts to an exact 20 mm. A three-arm mechanism includes corresponding 20 mm circular recesses at their terminals. A minor design modification positions these arms inward by 0.5 mm creating subtle initial pressure on the ball to keep it securely in place. Increased tension between arms and the ball can be fine-tuned using arm length adjustment and inward movement. A tighter preload means a more robust hold of the mirror in position. Conversely, shorter arms would produce greater tension due to increased stiffness proportional to cubed values (L^3). Additionally, increasing inward radial displacement increases initial ball contact with arms. Design Reuse Feel free to adapt these design concepts for other project applications.
