Ball in Vine Ornament
thingiverse
I transformed the Ball in Vine model (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:112655) into an ornament for a colleague's tree. To print it with MakerBot Replicator2, I used MakerWare 2.4 and customized a profile (**see below) with settings like Infill at 10%, Layer Height of 0.200, Shells at 1, Feedrate of 90, Travel Feed at 150 and Temperature at 230. A raft with full support was used for printing, which took around 2 hours for a height of about 60 mm. Removing the support structure was quite manageable due to the design. To ensure better support for overhangs in this model, I modified a new profile by enabling "doSupport" and setting "supportAngle" at 45 degrees in MakerBot PLA Standard.
