ball in a box
thingiverse
My mom crafted the intriguing ball-in-a-box illusion from a single block of wood back in the 70s, inspired by a Native American craft book. My first foray into 3D printing resulted in a recreation using Tinkercad software, hoping it would turn out just right! I printed it on a Rep 2 at medium settings with a raft and support, featuring 15% infill, 2mm layer height, and three shells. Occasionally, I've experienced adhesion issues a couple of inches off the plate, so I plan to try Whpthomas's "rock-solid build plate pad upgrade" along with his extruder upgrade. The PLA filament used was from SainSmart on Amazon, and while some air prints occurred due to minor diameter inconsistencies, overall, the results have been impressive. I've had success printing these without supports or rafts using Makerware to slice at 0.15 layers and 50% infill. Whpthomas's ear raft supports also work well, adding one under each touching span and under the ball itself. My mom received one and loved it - she'd definitely approve of yours too!
