Ball Bearing with paused addition of BBs
thingiverse
This is a rapid ball bearing to test incorporating metal components (standard BBs) during the part printing process. Final part inner diameter is 0.25 inches (1/4") and outer diameter is 0.875 inches (7/8"). Note that the print should be halted temporarily so that the BBs can be inserted at a precise height of 5.8mm. Additional information is available at http://makefastworkshop.com/hacks/?p=20160920. Quick observations include: Heating the BBs on the 3D printer's bed can help minimize shrinkage when added. Minimizing the time spent pausing the print will promote strong bonding between layers. Experts recommend slowing down the feedrate of your 3D printer by around 10-20% of normal speed and adding the BBs while it's running instead of halting the print. Be cautious, as the extruder is hot and can cause injury if not handled properly.
