Ball Bearing Spool Holder
thingiverse
I tried some new, affordable filament (Dazzle Light) and really enjoyed its performance. Unfortunately, their spools have a massive diameter and the sides are too thick for my existing spool holders. These custom-made stands work perfectly for it and utilize these extremely inexpensive ball bearings from Wish. https://www.wish.com/product/5864a648def90b4faa7614ce (In case the link is dead, the bearings measure 11mm in outer diameter, 5mm in inner diameter, and 4mm in width.) I used a total of four 10-32 x 1" machine screws and nuts. A 1" length was slightly too long, so 0.75" might look more balanced. DON'T OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREWS!!! The only issue I encountered was that the shelf visible in the picture is very slippery, causing the stands to slide a little while printing. My quick solution was to add the binder clips you see. The spool rotates very smoothly so there isn't much force trying to pull it off the shelf. Any additional friction should be sufficient to prevent them from sliding. Thanks!
