Ball Attachment for Oktava MK-012 Omni Capsules
prusaprinters
This model is designed for Oktava's MK-012 condenser microphone with the Omni capsule to boost its high frequency and directionality. The design is commonly associated with the classic Neumann’s M50 microphone used in orchestral music recordings such as the 'Decca tree' setup. For more description in its effects, similar ball attachment for other microphones can be found in the following links:Schopes KA-40APE for DPA 4006Three different ball sizes of 30mm, 40mm and 50mm diameter are provided. Using a bigger ball should give a more pronounced boost in high end. For more subtle effect, consider using the smaller ball.Filament Choice:The classic Neumann’s M50's capsule is mounted on a 40mm diameter acrylic sphere. The density of acrylic is about 1.18 g/cm³. Assuming density has an effect on how it works, we do not want to stray too far. PETG seems to be an affordable choice at 1.23 g/cm³. It also allow smooth sliding and snug fit on the microphone capsule. Print Parameters:Filament: PETGInfill: 100% (I assume any air gap will affect it's acoustic properties)Infill Pattern: ConcentricAdaptive layer heightBrim: Outer and InnerSupport: Optional, depends on filament overhangsPost Processing:Remove all stringingShave off brimsTest and condition the fit of the ball on the microphoneAudio Recording Sample:While I do not have an AB test, I have a used the 40mm attachment for a recording gig. The audio in the link is also mixed and post processed with other mics. Youtube link for audio
