Ball and Socket Fingers

grabcad

This 25th May update displays various grips achievable with rotating/locking finger joints, activated by Pivot and Locking Pins (RED). The aim is to incorporate a ball joint concept into diverse designs (illustrated in GREY). Note that the pins are just 3mm in diameter; metal ones would be stronger but 3D-printed versions using 3mm FDM filament could be made by reshaping ends with heat. The idea involves finger joints connected to a hand through ball and socket joints, enhancing utility in designs featuring pull wire-operated fingers by demonstrating how ball and socket joints can potentially improve functionality. Images highlight the flexibility of locking finger joint positions for various tasks. However, 3D printed versions may lack strength due to thin pins.
