The Balao class of submarines was a successful improvement over the previous Gato Class, serving in WWII and demonstrating effectiveness in combat. Powered by 2 diesel engines and four electric motors, these subs could carry 24 torpedoes, with weapon variations across boats and frequent refit changes. Well-known for their Pacific presence, Balao class submarines were a prominent feature during the war.
