Balance monétaire dite "de changeurs" (ouverte)
sketchfab
Peter Diederich and Caspar Poppenberg, expert weighers (balance makers) in Sprockhövel, Germany from 1792 to 1824, designed this precision balance. It was used by exchange dealers and international traders to verify the weight of key gold coins circulating across Europe at the time. Back then, currencies were viewed as small metal ingots whose value was determined by their weight, not their denominations. Each weight clearly displays the name of the coin it corresponds to. These balances emerged during the late Middle Ages and remained in use until the early 19th century. Inventory number: 56.262. Discover this mounted balance. Explore the closed case.
