Bait Diver for fishing
thingiverse
This is a highly effective bait diver, comparable to commercial ones readily available at most tackle shops. It's trolled with your line attached to one of the tail holes, while the leader and terminal tackle are secured off one of the belly holes. When not pulled, it floats effortlessly, but will plunge under tension. To ensure optimal performance, a small weight should be placed in the tube section of the diver before gluing on the cap. The weight slides forward and back, helping the diver to point in the right direction. Commercial versions often utilize a ball bearing or steel marble, but I've had great success with a 9mm FMJ bullet that works seamlessly and slides back and forth smoothly. (Note: I'm referring to the actual lead core used when reloading, not the cartridge itself.) The default size will dive to approximately 20 feet, but you can easily scale this up to a larger diver. There are three files available - You'll primarily use the body and cap, as these can be printed without supports, allowing you to place the weight inside without the cap. I've also included a version where the cap and body are combined into one unit. Sizes smaller than the default won't require a weight, so you may be able to simply print that one if you want a small version. Update: V2 has been uploaded, which adds a bit more airspace back into the body, helping it to float and dive properly. Simply drilling through works just fine. At least one should go in the tail section, and one in the belly fin.
