Baelo Claudia stands out as one of Andalucia's most significant Roman archaeological sites, boasting well-preserved ruins that date back centuries. The sprawling complex is situated on the Costa de la Luz, just a 15km drive north of Tarifa, nestled between the charming town of Bolonia and its stunning beach. Its rich history is deeply rooted in the fact that it was once a crucial hub for trade routes connecting Europe to North Africa; with the Straits of Gibraltar narrowing to just 14km at their most constricted point, Baelo Claudia took full advantage of this prime location. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of an impressive temple, forum, basilica, baths, aqueduct, and a massive fish-salting factory, gaining a glimpse into the city's former grandeur.
