The BAe 146, a United Kingdom-produced regional airliner by British Aerospace (later part of BAE Systems), was manufactured between 1983 and 2002. The Avro RJ, an enhanced version, started production in 1992. In 1997, the advanced Avro RJX with new engines was introduced; however, only five aircraft were built before its production ceased in 2001. Despite this, the BAe 146/Avro RJ programme stands as Britain's most successful civil jet project, with a total of 387 aircraft produced.
