Baddeley MkIII Battery Box Front with Separate Power Plate for R2-D2
prusaprinters
Most of the props and costumes used for R2-D2 in the first Star Wars movie, now of course titled “A New Hope,” had a metallic plate on the front of the battery box. For builders trying to use Michael Baddeley's excellent Mark III Astromech files to create an ANH style droid, the only way to recreate this detail was very careful painting.I'm not fond of that much masking. So I sliced the very tip off instead! Now it's two separate parts, allowing for easier painting or even printing in different coloured filament. It's not quite the true ANH experience, since those battery boxes were slightly smaller and had an additional attachment “hangar,” but it's closer.***I used files created by Mike Baddeley to make this. The threading for the hose connectors is preserved, so you don't even need glue to attach the power plate if you don't want to! It should fit just fine on his standard MkIII Battery Box. You can find that battery box and really the rest of R2-D2 through Mike's Patreon, here:https://www.patreon.com/mrbaddeley(Avoid the Version 1 Mr.Baddeley droid found on thingiverse! It's his first attempt, has flaws, and is not remotely screen-accurate!)Mike's 3d files are based on drawings created for the R2-D2 Builders' Club. Those drawings were made from measurements of actual Lucasfilm props, with the understanding that the information would only be used by builders making their own R2-D2 replicas. These files, therefore, cannot be used for any commercial or for-profit purpose. The R2-D2 Builders' Club can be found at: https://astromech.net . These parts are meant to fit to the Baddeley MkIII Battery Box which in turn is meant to fit the MkIII Foot Shell. The MkIII Foot is not compatible with Club Foot Drive designs. That said, these are all made from the same plans, so one could probably make the MkIII fit with a bit of effort. The reference image of the real R2-D2 prop is taken from the 3DSFInfo Astrodroid Pages at: https://sites.google.com/site/3dsfinfo/astromech-pages .
