Bacteriophage T4
thingiverse
Correcting a prior error, this model represents Bacteriophage T4, a fascinating micro-organism used extensively in genetic research. Enzymes and genetic systems derived from T4 have seen widespread use for joining DNA together and its ability to lie dormant in an E.coli cell before erupting is truly remarkable. Note that the model requires scaling via the included scale function, as it has not been parameterized yet. Unfortunately, due to its intricate structure, this model may not print on domestic 3D printers without support. However, you can purchase a printed version of the model in "Strong and Flexible" material from Shapeways: http://www.shapeways.com/model/452247/bacteriophage_t7_model.html. Printing in metal is not possible, though.
