Jean Bernard Duseigneur, a renowned French romantic sculptor, was born in Paris in 1808 and passed away on March 6, 1866. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and achieved great acclaim when he showcased his sculpture Roland Furieux at an exhibition in 1831, now housed at the Louvre Museum, which is often regarded as the first romantic sculpture ever created. Duseigneur quickly shifted his focus to producing a wide array of religious works, along with medallions and busts of prominent figures such as Jacques de Rougé, Marquis du Plessis-Bellière, who resides in the Palace of Versailles, and poet Gérard de Nerval. His most celebrated work, Roland Furieux, remains permanently displayed at The Louvre.
