Bacchus
myminifactory
The bust on display portrays Bacchus, as identified by the inscription on its base and the distinctive wine and ivy leaves that crown his head. The hair ornaments featured in this work bear striking similarities to the renowned bust of Antinous as Bacchus found at the Capitoline Museums and the British Museum. Despite these notable parallels, little is known about this captivating bust, which boasts a unique blend of masculine and feminine characteristics. Long locks cascade down the left side of the bust's shoulder, while a fur cloak adorns the right. In keeping with the other sculptures on display at Ekaterininsky Park, the reverse bears a signature by the skilled artisan E. Gastecloux.
