Babylon 5 Narn G'quan heavy cruiser multipart
thingiverse
I love Babylon 5 and the Narn ship. This is a printer-friendly version of the model created by Mike1701 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:418722. My only credit I can claim is arranging the model for printing. I am not a 3D designer like him, so all praise goes to him for this excellent model. His model is great, but to print it at the scale I wanted, 30 cm+, I had to split it into multiple parts and fix some defects in the original model. I'm not a 3D artist, just a B5 fan, so my repairs aren't perfect, but the final result was very nice as shown in the pictures. In theory, you only need the following five files: - G'quan heavy cruiser (front).stl - G'quan heavy cruiser (rear).stl - G'quan heavy cruiser (wing).stl - G'quan heavy cruiser (laser).stl - G'quan heavy cruiser (motor).stl All of these parts need support to print. The supports for the laser and motor are a nightmare to remove, which is why I created additional STL files to repair the parts I broke during the cleaning process. - G'quan heavy cruiser (motor tube).stl - G'quan heavy cruiser (motor band).stl If you're more skilled than me in the cleaning process, you won't need them. I used a brim with support for the wing part but the structure was still not very stable (more infill in the supports?), so I had to reprint the bottom tips of the wing to get the quality I needed. I've also included this STL file in case you have the same problem as me: - G'quan heavy cruiser (wing part).stl All the hull parts, including the wings, were printed at 0.2 layer height. The motor and laser parts were printed at 0.1 layer height. For some reason, the tips of the laser didn't print well with a 0.4 mm nozzle, so I had to reprint them with a 0.2 mm nozzle. Here's the file I used: - G'quan heavy cruiser (laser part).stl Probably, some defects in printing the motor and laser can be avoided by using a 0.2 mm nozzle. If you try this long print, let me know. All parts were painted before being assembled with super glue. For painting, I simply used acrylic paint and plenty of masking tape. Don't forget that red to black is not the same as black to red. I'm designing a support system. I'll post it here when I'm done.
