Fetal growth unfolds over several distinct phases, each marked by significant milestones. From the moment of conception, a remarkable journey begins, unfolding across various stages. The process starts on day one, as a fertilized egg implants in the uterus, initiating a chain reaction that will shape the future child. Twenty days into gestation, the embryo undergoes rapid transformation, its cells multiplying and differentiating to form vital organs and tissues. This critical period lays the groundwork for future development, setting the stage for the next major milestone: four weeks. By this point, basic body structures are taking shape, including the heart, lungs, and limbs. The eight-week mark brings another significant leap forward, as the fetus begins to take on a more defined form. Major organs continue to mature, while the nervous system starts to function, paving the way for sensory development. The twelve-week benchmark is a time of rapid growth, with the fetus's senses becoming increasingly refined and its physical characteristics becoming more apparent. As the pregnancy reaches term, the baby has reached full maturity, ready to face the world outside the womb. This final stage is marked by a significant increase in weight and size, as well as the development of essential life skills, such as breathing and swallowing.
