Baby's First Mjolnir
thingiverse
The first hammer cracked on the second day: there likely was a weak layer in the handle, and the handle snapped right down the middle. This got me thinking that printing it vertically isn't ideal for strength - you'd need a flat surface or loads of supports (with those usual rough layers above the supports). So I redesigned the hammer to have a solid core that's easy to print horizontally. The core goes all the way through the handle, is glued to the hexagonal post inside the hammerhead and into the matching opening inside the pommel. I printed the core in Polycarbonate (break that, Thor!). While doing so, I also changed the text to be gender-neutral (no girl's hammer was added). The little icosahedron can be printed and used inside the head as a rattle; I put two of them in. The hollow handle is printed vertically and probably needs a brim - I also used a brim for the icosahedrons. The hexagonal core is printed on its side, easy to print from PETG or PLA, for PC it requires... well, whatever you do to get PC to stick; I was able to print it on Garolite and with a brim.
