Our doorway was much wider than our baby gate. Luckily, this extra piece of hardware provided us the space we desperately needed. It pairs perfectly with the mounting brackets included for the munchkin MK0026-000 baby gate - that same product they market as a pet gate. This baby gate adapter is 1.25" wide and can be secured in place using 3" screws. We find that a spacer greater than 1.5 inches might pose a safety risk.
