Baby Chick Waterer for Mason Jars Safety Drown Resistant

UPDATED BOWL 08/28/2018 I updated the bowl to make it easier for the Water Insert to lock together, allowing you to lift the waterer out of the brooder without holding both items at the same time. Now you can fill the mason jar, lock the bowl in place, then invert the waterer as a whole, avoiding any mess. See: Chick Water Bowl_Revised.stl We have new chicks on the way and needed quick feeders and waterers fast. We had a lot of Mason and Ball Canning jars lying around, so I decided to use them instead of searching for commercial solutions that were not drown resistant. I designed this from scratch. Here's the Chicken watering device that is totally drown resistant. The Chicks can't plop in below the water level. It comes in 2 pieces: an insert that accepts any size standard mouth mason jars, and a water bowl it sets in. You can use 4 oz, Quart or Pint size jars, but it will also work fine for Cockerels and Pullets. Clean and sanitize it with a mild bleach solution often. I recommend using a canning gasket inside the insert to prevent air leaks that would cause the mason jar to drip over the threads. Mine didn't need it, so if your's keeps dripping, try using a little silicone or a small gasket. Any size Standard Mouth Mason jar will do to complete this safety waterer.
