I updated the bowl to allow for secure attachment of the Water Insert dispenser. This improvement makes it easier to lift the waterer out of the brooder without needing to hold both items together simultaneously. Now you can fill the mason jar, lock the bowl in place, and then invert the waterer as a whole unit, avoiding any mess. See: Chick Water Bowl_Revised.stl We're expecting new chicks soon, and I needed some quick feeders and waterers. Luckily, we have a lot of Mason and Ball Canning jars lying around, so I decided to put them to good use. After searching online for commercial solutions, I didn't find any that were designed to be drip-resistant. So I created this device from scratch. Here is the Chicken Watering Device that's designed to prevent drowning. The Chicks can't fall asleep below the water level because it comes in two pieces: the insert that accepts any size standard mouth mason jars, and the water bowl it sets into. You can use 4 oz, Quart or Pint size jars with this device, but it will also work perfectly for Cockerels and Pullets. To keep it clean and sanitized, I recommend using a mild bleach solution often. I suggest adding a canning gasket inside the insert to ensure there are no air leaks that would cause the mason jar to empty over the threads. If your device keeps dripping, you can use a little silicone or a small gasket to fix the issue. Enjoy! Any size Standard Mouth Mason jar will do to complete this safe waterer.
