Bab Al Makina
sketchfab
The Makina was commissioned by Alawid Sultan Moulay el-Hassan in 1885 as a cutting-edge weapons factory. This pioneering facility is often seen as a beacon of modern industrialization in Fez, marking the Sultan's ambitious plan to upgrade his military might. Situated on the western side of Bab Dkaken, the Makina seamlessly integrated a centuries-old aqueduct into its structure, cleverly repurposing it as part of one of its walls. This innovative approach allowed for state-of-the-art facilities for metalwork and woodworking to be housed within, all topped with an impressive roof of cross vaults.
