The BA-64 is a diminutive, lightly armoured Soviet scout car equipped with either a Degtyaryov machine gun or PTRD anti-tank rifles. Nicknamed 'Bobik' by Red Army personnel, this four-wheeled vehicle has seen wide exportation. Although differing figures exist among Russian sources, 9,110 (comprising 3,901 BA-64 and 5,209 BA-64B) were manufactured at the GAZ automobile plant. A memorial plaque near Nizhny Novgorod indicates a slightly lower production figure of 9,063 vehicles. Of these, Red Army accepted 8,174 with radio sets, while others were given to NKVD units and Soviet allies. The BA-64's influence extended to other military vehicles such as the SK-1.
