B2D stands for "Belted Dual Drive," a bowden style extruder designed to provide extra grip on filament and minimize noise during retraction. FEATURES: - A dual drive gear system enhances grip, preventing grinding of filament, making frequent retraction more reliable. - Belt-driven motion produces minimal noise itself during retraction; any remaining noise comes from the stepper motor vibrating the printer frame. - The 3:1 gear ratio boosts torque. - An adjustable compression spring provides added strength and versatility. - Modular parts allow for various combinations of drive gears, filament, and bowden tubes. - The bowden connector slides smoothly for 3.5mm; any diameter between 7-12mm is compatible with the drive gear. - Quick-changeable drive gears enable users to switch between large gears for silent operation and small gears for high-speed extrusion. OPERATION VIDEOS: - A drive force test demonstrates the B2D's capabilities using E3D Hobb-Goblin gears, maxing out at 9-10kg of spring compression; a NEMA17 motor with 0.55N.m torque and rated current of 1.5A running at 1.25A. UPDATE: - 26/05/2017: The v2 update reduces tension in the belt and raises parts to prevent interference with set screws. - 23/08/2017: A new, stronger base plate is introduced. - 20/09/2017: The bowden connector for 2.85mm filament is adjusted to reduce tightness, and adjustable tension is added for v3 base plates.
