B-Turm German Watchtower for G-scale

thingiverse

This is a replica of an East German Watchtower (B-Turm), with towers situated along the border between DDR and BRD. Original towers stood up to 9m high, but were built in sections with adjustable heights for optimal landscape views. Typically, two officers manned each post. Made in "G-scale" at 1:22.5, this model can be scaled as desired. We're running a narrow-gauge railroad on our garden with a DDR theme in the late 1980s era, making this tower a must-have. My version has four sections (B4), but there's an "extension module" for customizable heights. I based my design on original pictures and drawings. Modelled using FreeCad, the first picture shows it watching over the border towards BRD from our layout. A "search light" is perched atop, lit by a 5mm high output LED. The search light and officers were printed with a Zortrax Inkspire DLP Resin Printer, while the rest of the tower was printed on my Zortrax M200. The file set includes a simple table and ashtray for interior details. Some AK47s would be an excellent addition.
